Margate is situated on the coast along the North Foreland and contains the areas of Cliftonville, Garlinge, Palm Bay and Westbrook. In the early days Margate was a leading seaside for Londoners because of the sandy beaches.
Margate was a limb of Dover and was thereby a part of the confederation of Cinque Ports. It was formed for military and trade purposes.
Cliftonville is a coastal area of Margate. The most beautiful part are the sandy beaches surrounded by chalk cliffs.
